Airline Transport Pilot License

The Airline Transport Pilot’s license is a requirement in order to work for certain airlines and very often is required by part 135 charter operators as a minimum requirement.


Minimum requirements:

  • Be at least 23 years of age
  • Hold at least a commercial pilots license with instrument rating
  • Have at least 1500 hours of total time as pilot that includes:
    • 500 hours of cross country time
    • 100 hours of night flight time
    • 75 hours of instrument time
    • 250 hours in an airplane as pilot in command, or as second in command performing the duties of a pilot in command, or any combination thereof, which includes at least:
      • 100 hours of cross country time
      • 25 hours of night flight time
  • Pass the FAA Airline Transport Pilot Knowledge Test
  • Pass the FAA Airline Transport Pilot Practical Test
